ARTIST STATEMENT

“I continue to be interested in developing well-crafted, richly surfaced, art. My paintings include various materials including metal, stucco, acrylic paint, oil paint, found objects, photo transfers, and resin. My visual language is delicately feminine and celebrates beauty, design and ornament. I observe the passing of the seasons and represent my vision with rich colors, subtle textures, and compositions inspired by the natural world. My visual style is marked by a playful and delicately feminine sensibility. The results are works with an empowered beauty that is en&rely unique and endlessly fascinating.”

ABOUT DANA

Dana Swedo cannot remember a time in her adult life when she was not creating art with the intent of finding an audience. She graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute and has enjoyed an exceptional 31 year career with Hallmark Cards, Inc. Swedo will also say that she loves her Labrador Gracie and my German Shepherd Dog Diego. Swedo’s husband, her family, and her creative friends in Kansas City continue to support her in this journey.

“Inspiration comes to me in many ways; listening to music, walking in parks with my dogs, and I’m always up for a trip to a junkyard. There I find objects with some design, pattern or purpose that inspires me to feature them in a larger context.

I incorporate these found objects into my work because their worn quality adds a sense of time and human presence.”
