About This Work

The Blue Swallow is a classic motor court established in 1939 on historic Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. When I visited, I was awe-struck by the pink stucco exterior facade as well as the vintage lamps and period furniture in the rooms – it felt like I had walked into my grandmother’s living room in 1957. Most evenings, travelers still sit in colorful retro lawn chairs outside each room, much as they did in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. The Blue Swallow is a wonderful way to step back in time.

About Jack Hayhow

Jack Hayhow is a successful entrepreneur and author with a keen eye for opportunity, and a commitment to innovation that propels productivity. Throughout his career, he has produced training, tools and techniques to help people succeed in wide range of industries - from insurance to hospitality, from education to automotive, from publishing to broadcasting to real estate.

Jack has been described as a “chronic learner” and is compelled by his passion for helping people and companies improve performance where it matters most. He is the author of dozens of training programs including: The Foundation of Management, Reward and Recognition, Time Management for Managers, Coaching for Performance, and To Be a Leader. His book, The Wisdom of the Flying Pig: Guidance and Inspiration for Managers and Leaders has received acclaim from business leaders and academics alike. Most recently, Jack’s book, Breaking Through the Barrier: What Companies That Grow Do Differently has been heralded as “a spot-on analysis of how entrepreneurs can take their businesses to the next level”.

Jack discovered his passion for art somewhat later in life. In preparation for attendance at the wedding of his foreign exchange daughter in Stockholm, Sweden, Jack bought an inexpensive digital camera at his neighborhood photo shop. He was immediately captivated by the art and craft of photography. His artistic pursuits now include not only photography, but also hand-embellished digital art. Jack donates all 100% of proceeds from the sale of his art to Children’s Mercy Hospital in his hometown of Kansas City.

A life-long Kansas City resident, Hayhow lives in Leawood, Kansas with his wife, Joyce Hayhow.
