Description
Looking at the work of Fujio Akai over a period of many years, one notices striking differences in their appearance. The rare opportunity to see his early paintings alongside his present work is both stimulating and thought provoking.
The viewer is struck by the juxtaposition of the two. On one side there is an intense reduction and concentration of color and form suggesting meditation, on the other the waves of paint and floating forms create an atmospheric liveliness – has Akai’s work become pleasing?
