Hans-Jürgen Diehl was born in 1940 in Hanau am Main. Until 1966, Diehl studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Munich, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the College for Visual Arts in Berlin and became a master’s student under Professor Trier. Along with other artists such as Markus Lüpertz and Karl Horst Hödicke, Diehl founded the legendary gallery Großgörschen 35 in 1964. Finishing his formal training in 1966, he was appointed professor for painting at the College of Arts in Berlin in 1977. Hans-Jürgen Diehl has been honored with numerous exhibitions in Germany, including at the Institute for Modern Art in Nuremberg, the Poll Gallery in Berlin, Ulm, and Hannover, and also at international exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Zurich. The artist currently lives in Berlin and New York.
