About This Work

Tags: Steve McQueen, Nostalgia, Pop Art, Collage, 50s, 60s, 70s, Warhol, Wesselmann, Lichtenstein

Holger Zimmermann moves between 50s nostalgia and pop art. He combines highly condensed collage-like motifs from the consumer world of the 1950s, original magazine material from that time and paintings reduced to a few contrasts to create young, refreshing works of art with a spark of nostalgia.

Holger Zimmermann was born in Daun (Eifel), Germany in 1970. Through artists such as Warhol, Wesselmann and Lichtenstein, he began to turn to painting at a young age and from then on continued his self-taught training. He develops his own visual language between nostalgia and pop art. He finds his motifs in magazines and publications from the 50s and 60s, among others. By dissolving contours with a sensitive application of highly diluted acrylic paint, he creates a special atmosphere that is both refreshing and yet awakens memories.
