Description
An artist working in Kansas City. Originally from Guatemala. My life has been shaped by shifts in nationalities, along with my ties to the motherland. This remains a large subject in my work today. I was raised in a small village called Colon, on the outskirts of Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango. Also known as the “Place of the Quetzal bird”. I was raised in a different world by my grandparents when my mother was an immigrant in America. At that time, we all carried a strong sense of nationality and belonging. The village is rooted ancient mayan culture and customs. My grandmother and grandfather spoke two languages. They spoke Nahuatl and Spanish, this duality would become much more important later. As I settled in America, I lived in two worlds. It is the space between these worlds that the art inhabits.
