About This Work

Michael Schmidt-Stein (German, born 1942) born in 1942 in Ratingen near Düsseldorf, lives and works in Bavaria. From 1965 to 1970, he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin under Professor Hans Uhlmann. Since 1968, his works have been featured in numerous exhibitions across Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. In 1993, he became a lecturer in etching at the Department of Art Education at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

His landscapes are both lived and dreamed—fragments of a poetic world, brought into the present through technical elements. His female nudes are stoic, enigmatic figures shaped by the spirit of both ancient and modern myths—torso-like fragments of our thoughts and desires.
