About This Work

By juxtaposing the materials, meaning, and the needs of humans, Dan Anderson’s work is a commentary on art and the human condition. This piece depicts the classic Popeye symbol placed on a Yunomi teacup. It embraces the irony between the style of teacup and the history imbued in the classic comic strip character. This contemporary and functional piece of stoneware was created with a shino glaze, and both wood fired, and decal fired. It measures 3″x4″x4″.

About Dan Anderson

"My artwork, an amalgam of vessel and industrial artifact, is full of irony-handsome replicas of man-made objects, soft clay renderings of metal objects aged and impotent reminders of a once powerful age."
