On a sultry summer night during the Covid 19 pandemic in August of 2020, I ventured to one of my favorite Kansas City sculptures – The Scout in Penn Valley Park. I was distressed to find the base of this magnificent art defaced with graffiti. So instead of the composition I had planned, I moved downhill from The Scout. The resulting drama of downtown seemed pertinent to the mood of the country.
